Trudeau Institute Hosts 2026 Northeast Regional World TB Day Conference in Saranac Lake, NY

From March 23 - 25, Trudeau Institute will once again host the Northeast Regional World TB Day Conference at its campus in Saranac Lake, New York.

First convened at Trudeau Institute in 2009, the organizers are excited to welcome top TB researchers and scientists to the original birthplace of modern tuberculosis research in the United States. This meeting offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on Trudeau Institute’s legacy as the nation’s first laboratory dedicated exclusively to tuberculosis research, while highlighting the urgent scientific priorities that continue to drive the field today.

Tuberculosis remains the leading cause of death from a single infectious agent worldwide and continues to pose a major global public health challenge. Although decades of progress have saved an estimated 83 million lives since 2000 through advances in diagnostics, treatment, and public health strategies, significant hurdles remain. The existing vaccine provides limited protection against adult pulmonary disease, and treatment regimens are long and often complicated by toxicity, side effects, and the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. Continued progress depends on sustained collaboration across basic science, clinical research, and public health.

The conference offers a highly interactive format, bringing together researchers, clinicians, and public health professionals to share insights and address challenges across microbiology, immunology, epidemiology, and patient care. Key objectives of the meeting are to create an engaging and structured forum to exchange the latest advances in TB research, from fundamental biology to clinical and population-level insights that will lead to collaboration and new networking opportunities.  Researchers will also assess progress toward the World Health Organization End TB Strategy.

The hope is that by convening leaders and emerging voices in the field, the 2026 Northeast Regional World TB Day Conference will accelerate therapeutics and treatments that will have a lasting impact on the millions of people affected by tuberculosis worldwide.
