Trudeau Institute Receives $2.5M in Federal Funding to Modernize Research Infrastructure and Train Next Generation of Scientific Workforce

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – Trudeau Institute has secured $2.5 million in congressionally directed federal funding, made possible through the strong advocacy of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. This investment will modernize the Institute’s research infrastructure, provide cutting-edge analytical instruments, and expand professional development opportunities for its scientific staff.

The funding will enable the acquisition of state-of-the-art scientific equipment to significantly enhance Trudeau Institute’s analytical capabilities. These investments are a key part of a broader initiative to upgrade the research campus, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of transformative infectious disease studies and the development of new therapeutics and vaccines.

This program also includes workforce development funding to train staff in the operation and application of these advanced systems, maximizing the scientific insights gained from research. This training aligns with New York State’s goal to prepare a highly skilled technical workforce capable of supporting cutting-edge biomedical research across the United States.

These investments will elevate Trudeau Institute’s research capabilities, which focus on understanding immune responses to infectious diseases and advancing vaccines, therapeutics, and treatments for persistent global threats such as tuberculosis, influenza, respiratory infections, and emerging drug-resistant pathogens that continue to burden healthcare systems worldwide.

“Maintaining domestic scientific capacity for infectious disease research is critical to our national healthcare interests,” said Trudeau Institute Director William Reiley. “Investments like this ensure the United States retains the expertise, infrastructure, and trained workforce needed to respond rapidly to unexpected biological threats, whether naturally occurring or man-made.”
